aity Hub

One place for every aity app.

aity Hub lists the aity apps, shows which ones you already have and which version, and installs or updates them in a tap. Every download comes from aity.uk (or, on Windows, the aity GitHub account) and is checked against its published checksum before it is installed.

Android v1.3.0 (build b6) · Windows v1.3.0 · beta · no account, no sign-in · Windows installer is unsigned, so SmartScreen warns on first run

What it does

Install, update and open, from one list.

📲

Install in a tap

Each aity app has a card with an Install, Update or Open button, so you don't have to hunt through separate download pages.

🔄

See what's out of date

Each card shows the version and build you have next to the latest one, and offers an update when a newer build is published. Tap a card for its release notes, date and size. Hub also tells you when a newer version of itself is out, and updates itself the same checked way.

🔐

Checked downloads

Hub only downloads from aity.uk (and, on Windows, the aity GitHub account), and compares every file with its published SHA-256 checksum. A file that doesn't match is thrown away and never installed.

✋

Always asks first

On Android, Hub hands the file to Android's own installer, which shows its usual confirmation each time. On Windows it opens the app's own installer, so you see its normal wizard, and Windows' permission prompt where one is needed. Nothing is ever installed silently.

📴

Works without a connection

If aity.uk can't be reached, Hub shows the last list it saved and says so, instead of an empty screen.

🔔

Optional update alerts

Switch on Notify me about updates and Hub checks a couple of times a day, then tells you when an aity app you have installed has a newer version. It only notifies: nothing downloads or installs until you tap. Off by default. On Android, Hub asks your permission first. On Windows, switching it on keeps Hub in the system tray (and starts it with Windows) so it can check in the background, and clicking the notification opens Hub; switch it off and that all goes away. With the tray icon on, right-clicking it also lists your installed aity apps so you can open any of them from there.

🕵️

Private

No account and no analytics in the app. Hub only talks to aity.uk, plus GitHub on Windows to fetch installers published there. It only checks whether the aity apps in its own list are installed. It doesn't look at your other apps.

Using it

Three taps the first time, two after that.

Allow installs once

The first time you tap Install, Hub explains and takes you to Android's "Install unknown apps" screen. Turn on Allow from this source for aity Hub and come back.

Tap Install or Update

Hub downloads the app with a progress bar (you can cancel), checks it, and passes it to Android.

Confirm in Android

Android asks whether to install or update the app. Say yes, and Hub's card switches to Open.

How to install

Android: download aity-hub-debug-b6.apk, allow installs from your browser or files app, and open it. This is an early sideload beta, a debug build that isn't on Google Play. Android only lets an app update over an installed copy that was signed with the same key, so if an app came from Google Play, Hub can't update it, and will say so and offer to uninstall it first (which removes that app's data from the phone).

Windows: download aity-hub-windows-1.3.0-setup.exe and run it. It installs just for you, with no administrator rights, and puts Hub in Start menu › aity. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen will warn on first run: choose More info, then Run anyway. At launch it lists Readaity, Narraity and ProcLens, and updates itself the same checked way. Right-click an app in the list (on Android, press and hold it) to open it, see its release notes or uninstall it (Hub opens the app’s own uninstaller; it removes nothing itself), or right-click Hub’s tray icon to open an app you have installed. Hub also adds an Uninstall aity Hub entry to the Start menu folder.
